Like most of the workshops, the one of 1st April 2006 in Hebden Bridge was structured around a series of silks with working titles for free interpretation and for painting on an individual and group basis. It began with an introduction to the materials.
A piece of silk, passed around, pinned to a frame snd painted in rainbow colours, it was entitled "RAINBOW", with two sub-titles,"APRIL SHOWERS" and "SUNNY SPELLS" to demonstrate "water " and "salting" techniques respectively. The "RAINBOW" frame was to watch over our day until the end.
Next, the first individual silk, entitled "THE GOLDEN EGG", then we worked as a group to provide a "NEST" for the eggs! We all drew the outline in gutta of a character within a nest. This was painted gradually over the morning, and concurrently with a second individual silk "FLEDGLING".
After lunch the "NEST" was completed and christene! d "APRIL FOOLS".The last individual silk, "A FEATHER IN MY CAP" was painted next.
The workshop came to a close as we stepped forward together each drawing an "arrow" onto the "RAINBOW" silk where our journey had begun.
Painting around the outline in "green" brought balance and that fresh Spring feeling! The title of the painting is "THE END IS JUST THE BEGINNING.
